Synology provides SSH access, which allows you to do a number of things you can’t do with the GUI. To enable SSH, simply log in on the Synology and open Control Panel. From the Control Panel, scroll down to “Terminal & SNMP” in the sidebar and check the box for “Enable SSH service” and then click Apply.

This is confirmed in 4 different Synology hw models running the same DSM versions (6.2.3) all having different harddrive models. The Synology models are RS3617xs+, DS1517+, DS713+, DS718+. The following tests were made, all which resulted in data corruption after extensive file writes. 1000 files of 350MB each written.
